Musically Smart Menu:

1. GarageBand (iLife, on your MacBook!)

  • compose music from "loops" (drag and drop instruments from the library - a song in ten minutes!)
  • compose music with real instruments
  • combine both
  • record yourself singing, then record yourself singing harmony to yourself!
  • Listen to "Spy V" (Jason Spivey) in song 1 below: his first song on GarageBand!  Clay's first two songs are below it. They all took less than 15 minutes to make!

2. iMovie

  • edit video to match a song (including any song you create in GarageBand!)
  • Clay did this one in about 20 minutes, using pictures from iPhoto (in iLife on your MacBook) and a song from GarageBand, edited together in iMovie (you guessed it - also in iLife on your MacBook)

3. Podcasting

  • recite poems as "radio shows" - podcasts
  • combine them with images for an impressionistic audio slideshow
  • National Book Festival Podcasts: from the US Library of Congress.  Great applications for the classroom: make your own, or use for lessons.

4.  NPR Vocal Impressions

  • NPR series that airs music clips, then asks viewers to write descriptions of the musicians voice;  also great for "word" learners (thanks to Carolyn Foote)
